Big Bags (FIBCs): Technical Guide
Contact us for standard big bags (bulk bags, FIBCs) or UN-approved big bags for dangerous goods: 13H1, 13H2, 13H3 and 13H4, packing groups II and III.
These products are available on request and are usually made to measure. The range includes:
- Standard big bags for powders and granules, made of woven polypropylene in various fabric weights, with a polyethylene coating, sized to your safe working load (SWL) and safety factor (SF). Pharmaceutical versions are made and packed in a cleanroom. Many filling, discharge and lifting options are available.
- Ventilated big bags: big bags designed mainly for the wood industry, with breathable fabric that prevents condensation and mould.
- Cubic Big Bags reinforced with internal baffles so they keep a square shape once filled, giving almost 30% more storage and transport efficiency. Also available in Gambo style; optional internal netting improves filling.
- Conductive big bags: some bulk materials generate static electricity when big bags are filled and emptied. If dust or flammable gases are present in the surrounding atmosphere, this can cause ignition or an explosion. The solution is to earth the bag: an earthed big bag is called a Type C FIBC. Its conductivity usually comes from carbon threads woven into the warp and weft; for food-contact FIBCs, silver threads replace the carbon. The body can be made of tubular or flat fabric, coated or uncoated, and conductive liners are fully moisture-proof. Type C big bags must be earthed during filling and discharge, and the conductivity of every component of each Type C FIBC is tested.
- CORONA big bags: an alternative to conductive big bags: Corona (Type D) big bags are made of a special Crohmiq fabric that dissipates static electricity without earthing. They remove the risks linked to earthing errors during handling.
They can be used for flammable powders handled in flammable or explosive atmospheres, in compliance with IEC 61340-4-4.
