EN 12195-2 Standard Truck Load Securing Straps: A Complete Range of Load-Securing Straps

The choice of a strap has a significant impact on the effectiveness of your load securing: What you absolutely need to know:

There are several securing methods that take different criteria into account when calculating load resistance:

When securing a load from above—which accounts for the vast majority of truck lashing applications—the LC or TMU is not a particularly relevant metric. This refers to the strap’s linear or circumferential strength, which in no way determines the effectiveness of friction-based securing (from above)
. The relevant indicator is the STF, which corresponds to the tensioner’s ability to apply tension to the strap, thereby exerting a more or less vertical force on the pallets to secure them. The STF generally ranges from 250 daN to 600 daN.
Note that this STF tension provided by the tensioner depends on the force the operator exerts on the tensioner handle: this is known as the SHF. The SHF is almost always 50 daN, or approximately 50 kg. With non-reversed handles—meaning you have to push the handle upward to tighten the strap—it is often difficult, if not impossible, to actually “push” the equivalent of 50 kgs upward. If the SHF is not met, the tension will be lower and, in any case, below the stated STF.
That is why we offer inverted handles that allow you to pull down instead of pushing up to ensure tension: It is much easier to apply a force of 50 kg to the tensioner handle this way, which will guarantee that the strap’s STF is reached.

In other lashing methods (direct, diagonal, side loop, or top loop), on the other hand, it is the linear and circumferential strength that is taken into account.

The amount of strapping required also depends on many other factors: the type of truck used, the nature of the materials involved, and the angles formed by the straps relative to the load: CONTACT US for a free technical assessment
