CLP Labels for Hazardous Chemicals – GHS
The labelling of hazardous chemicals changed in 2015. The CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) is more specific and introduces new hazard pictograms and hazard classes. Labelling rules for hazardous products therefore change quickly, which calls for expert advice and close regulatory monitoring.
Information that must appear on the label:
- The name, address, and phone number of the manufacturer, importer, or distributor,
- The name of the substance (and, if applicable, its form, concentration, etc.),
- The trade name and the hazardous component(s) if it is a preparation,
- The hazard pictogram(s),
- The signal word
- Hazard statements and precautionary statements,
- The index number if it is a substance,
- The nominal quantity if the product is distributed to the general public,
- Additional information.
Label sizes for hazardous chemicals are regulated. There are two types: CLP labels, and combined labels that include both the CLP label and the dangerous goods transport label (ADR / IMDG / IATA).
